Animal Control Officer

The Animal Control Officer is an employee of the City of Dimmitt under the Police Department. The Animal Control Officer is required to answer calls for service that involve animals and is authorized to enforce all ordinances and state laws pertaining to the ownership, care, and management of animals. This is accomplished by exercising lawful authority to issue citations, notices of violation, and seizing animals, and obtaining warrants or court orders pertaining to animals. Dimmitt Police Officers may also act to enforce this chapter or state laws pertaining to animals.

The Animal Control Officer has a skunk trap, a small dog trap, and a large dog trap that are available to be placed and set, at no charge. The Animal Control Officer does take animal surrenders during normal business hours. 

Animal Control Fees:

  • 1st pick up - $50.00 pick up fee plus $5.00 per day the animal is in the shelter. 
  • 2nd pick up - $100.00 pick up fee plus $5.00 per day the animal is in the shelter.
  • 3rd pick up - $200.00 pick up fee plus $5.00 per day the animal is in the shelter.

*These fees are separate from a citation. You must contact Municipal Judge Taylor if a citation was issued to you by the Animal Control Officer or a Dimmitt Police Officer.
